A multilingual cross-format journal
Words on Contradiction ist ein transdisziplinärer, zu Widersprüchen einladender und Widersprüche aushaltender, formal diverser Publikationsort, der Vielstimmigkeit zum Leitbild erklärt.
Jedes Heft hat ein von Gastherausgeber*innen verantwortetes Schwerpunktthema mit einem erkennbaren Bezug auf Widerspruch und Widersprüchlichkeit. Neben dem jeweiligen Schwerpunktthema bietet das Journal die Möglichkeit, in der Rubrik Forum Ideen jeglicher Art zum Thema Widerspruch und Widersprüchlichkeit zu veröffentlichen. Words on Contradiction erscheint einmal im Jahr; die Beitragssprachen sind Deutsch, Englisch, Französisch, weitere Sprachen sind möglich. Das Format der Beiträge ist gänzlich offen, von klassischen Forschungsartikeln über essayistische Beiträge, Interviews, Gedankenskizzen, Erfahrungsberichte, Lyrik, Manifeste oder Fotoessays ist in Absprache mit den Herausgeber*innen alles möglich.
Alle Beiträge werden durch die jeweilige Redaktion begutachtet, Artikel, die ein klassiches Peer-Review-Verfahren durchlaufen haben, sind entsprechend gekennzeichnet.
Wir freuen uns jederzeit über die Einsendung von Beiträgen sowie über Vorschläge für Schwerpunktthemen an woc@uni-bremen.de.
Words on Contradiction is a transdisciplinary, pluralistic, and formally diverse publication that invites and endures contradictions while proclaiming polyphony as its guiding principle.
Each issue has one or more guest editor(s) responsible for a thematic focus that poses a question with a recognizable reference to contradiction and the contradictory. In addition to each issue‘s thematic focus, the journal offers the opportunity to pitch ideas on the topic of contradiction and the contradictory in the Forum section.
Words on Contradiction appears once a year; the languages for contributions are German, English, and French, but other languages are also welcome. The format of the contributions is completely open; from classic research articles to essayistic contributions, interviews, sketches of ideas, reports of experiences, poetry, manifestos, or photo essays etc., anything is possible in consultation with the editor(s).
All contributions are reviewed by the particular editorial team. If individual articles have undergone a peer review process, this is indicated at the end of the article.

Thematic focus Social Media | Networks of Division? edited by Ehler Voss
Have you ever lost someone to social media?
Social media have been around for about three decades, and in that time they have greatly changed both themselves and the public sphere. The wide accessibility and the possibilities of collaborative participation in a potentially global public sphere were and are associated by many with the hope for more transparency, democratic participation, and the increase of knowledge and of international and intercultural understanding. This is countered not only by observations regarding the digital infrastructures’ consumption of resources that places a particular burden on societies in the Global South and ultimately endangers the entire planet but also by an increase in monopolization, surveillance, and censorship of the Internet in general and of social media in particular.
With the question of whether one has ever lost someone to social media this issue takes on the current trend of negative perceptions of social media while simultaneously calling them into question. The interdisciplinary contributions paint a multifaceted picture of the ambivalence inherent in such experiences of loss, which arise against the backdrop of the dual character of (social) media between connecting and dividing.
