„Beyond Apples and Orchards? – Reflections on Antipodal (In)dependencies in Knowledge Production”,
moderation by Dr. Rapti Siriwardane (Project area „Power Differences“).

*******************************************
Tuesday, October 25, 2017. 12:15–13.45, SFG 3070.
*******************************************

Organised in the form of an informal discussion circle, we will focus on recent debates on the contradictions of hierarchical dependence and academic precarity in neoliberali(ised) university and other research settings. As a point of departure, we´d be reflecting on two recent texts (both published in the current issue of HAU*) by postdoctoral researchers embedded within the broader Max Planck institutional context.

Participants are not expected to read the texts in advance. Yet for a more engaging discussion, please do not hesitate to reflect on and share your own lifeworld examples – and/or those of others.

References/discussion texts:

Peacock, Vita (2016) Academic precarity as hierarchical dependence in the Max Planck Society. HAU: Journal of Ethnographic Theory 6 (1): 95-119, available online: http://www.haujournal.org/index.php/hau/article/view/hau6.1.006

A rejoinder to Peacock (one of many):

Brumann, Christoph (2016) Max Planck dependence, in context. HAU: Journal of Ethnographic Theory 6 (1): 131-134, available online: http://www.haujournal.org/index.php/hau/article/view/hau6.1.009

*For those of you who are interested, there´s a joint article by David Berliner, Michael Lambek, Richard Irvine et al. in the same volume on the study of contradictions in anthropological theory – http://www.haujournal.org/index.php/hau/issue/view/hau6.1

All the best,
Rapti Siriwardane-de Zoysa
